Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “32 W.C.F.”. The top of the barrel is marked “COLT’S PT. F.A. MFG. Co.” / “HARTFORD. CT, U.S.A.”. The left side of the frame is marked with “PAT. SEPT. 19, 1871.” / “JULY 2, 72. JAN 19. 75.” and the circled Rampant Colt logo. The loading gate is marked with “2456”. The serial number is marked on the frame, grip frame, and the butt of the grip frame.
Barrel Length: 4 3/4″
Sights/ Optics: The front sight is a metal blade fixed to the front of the barrel. The rear sight is a ‘V’ notch integral to the topstrap and is visible when cocked.
Stock Configuration & Condition/ Grip: The grips are a two piece checkered black hard rubber with the Rampant Colt logo in an oval. There are handling scratches and compression marks. The peaks are smooth but defined. There is a small chip out of the rear of the left panel. The left panel has a large crack. The interior of both grips look to have had repair done to them. The scribed numbers inside the panels do not match the serial number. Overall, the grip panels are in Fair condition.
Type of Finish: Blued, Case-colored

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright and the rifling is defined. There is black powder erosion and pitting in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates a 5/10.
Overall Condition: The pistol retains about 65% of its finish. There is finish loss along the barrel, cylinder, grip straps, and the leading edges. There are scattered handling scratches and compression marks. There are turn lines on the cylinder. There are spots of oxidation and freckling throughout the surfaces. The cylinder pin head is slightly marred. The case-color is no longer vibrant. The screw heads are lightly tooled, with usable slots. Overall, the pistol is in Fair-Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this revolver. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Colt Single Action Army is one of the most important and recognizable American revolvers, introduced in 1873 and carried through the black powder and early smokeless powder eras as a sidearm for military, law enforcement, ranch, frontier, and civilian use. First Generation examples are especially desirable to Colt collectors because they represent original production prior to World War II and show the mechanical and aesthetic details that made the SAA famous. This 1909-production revolver is chambered in .32 W.C.F., also known as .32-20 Winchester, a classic revolver and lever-rifle cartridge that offered mild recoil, useful accuracy, and strong appeal to shooters who wanted cartridge compatibility between handgun and rifle. The 4 3/4” barrel, fixed sights, side-loaded 6-shot cylinder, blued and case-colored finish, and hard rubber Rampant Colt grips give this example the classic prewar Colt SAA profile, while its honest wear and El Paso Saddlery holster add period-style display and collector appeal.

The revolver retains about 65% of its finish with barrel, cylinder, grip-strap, and edge wear, scattered handling marks, cylinder turn lines, oxidation freckling, subdued case color, lightly tooled screw heads, and a slightly marred cylinder pin head. The grips rate Fair with smoothed but defined checkering, a chip on the rear of the left panel, a large crack, evidence of repairs, and non-matching scribed numbers. The bore is semi-bright with defined rifling, black powder erosion, and pitting, rating 5 out of 10 in this writer’s opinion. The action functions correctly, making this revolver a solid candidate for Colt collectors, SAA enthusiasts, and buyers looking for a 1909 C&R First Generation Colt with old-west character and an included holster.
