Stock Configuration & Condition:  The wood stock has a traditional Semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking ring, and a checkered metal buttplate with storage compartment.  The LOP measures 13” inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad.  The stock has been sanded and nicely refinished as a result it shows very little notable wear or marks other than minor handling wear and some marks from the attached sling. There are no chips or cracks. The handguard wood likewise shows only minor handling wear with a small chip/crack forming from the rear clip on the rear handguard section. The metal buttplate has lost most of its finish, has patina and surface rust, the checkering is filled with debris and the door is very stiff to operate. The storage compartment has a cleaning kit. Overall the wood on this rifle is in Very Good condition as refinished for C&R.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Refinished and original

Bore Condition: The bore is semi dull and the rifling is well defined. There is moderate erosion throughout the bore. According to our gauges the muzzle reads at a .30+, the throat erosion reads at about a 6. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 3/10. It should also be stated that There is a known issue with Blue Sky imported guns in that sometimes they stamped the import mark so deep it took the barrel out of round. Before firing this rifle please have it evaluated by a competent gunsmith.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The gas tube, lock, plug, front sight and friction surfaces of the receiver show the finish loss. The balance of the finish has some minor surface lines scattered throughout. The muzzle shows surface rust and so does the charging handle. The bolt and follower are both new parts.  The screw heads are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall this rifle is in about Fair condition as refinished for C&R. The rifle would rate much higher if not for the condition of the bore.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes a green canvas sling, M1 tool, cleaning rod, oiler, grease, green canvas zippered bag, and original BLUE SKY box.

Our Assessment: The M1 Garand, designed by Canadian-born John C. Garand and manufactured by Springfield Armory, holds an iconic place in American military history. Serving as the standard-issue rifle for the U.S. military during World War II and the Korean War, it was the first semi-automatic rifle to be generally issued to the infantry of any nation. Chambered in .30-06 Springfield, this gas-operated, rotating bolt rifle gave American troops a distinct advantage in firefights, allowing for a rate of fire that bolt-action rifles simply couldn’t match. The M1 Garand’s design was revolutionary for its time, with an internal magazine fed by an eight-round “en bloc” clip. The rifle automatically ejected the clip with a distinctive “ping” sound when empty, signaling the need for a reload. This sound became iconic, a signature auditory clue of the weapon’s presence on the battlefield. While the fixed magazine and clip system did present some limitations, they were largely outweighed by the rifle’s advantages in speed and firepower. Today, the M1 Garand is a coveted piece for collectors, competitive shooters, and history enthusiasts alike. It is often seen in vintage military shooting competitions and has become a popular choice for hunters who appreciate its historical significance. With its blend of innovative design, rugged reliability, and proven effectiveness, the M1 Garand is more than just a relic of the past; it’s a symbol of American ingenuity and the bravery of those who carried it into battle.

This example began its life in August of 1944 and at some point after 1954 it was re-barreled with a Springfield Barrel. This example was also partially refinished and had several components replaced, possibly by the importer BLUE SKY, there are no Arsenal rebuild marks visible. The wood on the rifle is in Very Good shape and the action functions well. This rifle would rate much higher if not for the poor condition of the bore.
