Stock Configuration & Condition: The face of the grip is marked “P”, the left has an Defense “Eagle” stamp. The hardwood stock has a pistol grip, metal nose caps, a stacking loop, two sling loops, and a metal buttplate with hinged door for storage in the butt (there is nothing in the storage compartment). The buttplate is mostly worn to white with scattered light nicks and well defined checkering. The stock shows some scattered nicks, dings, and scratches, some of which have damaged small portions of the surface wood. There are a couple of small losses at edges and there is a repaired crack on the right below the receiver. The LOP measures 13 inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good overall condition.
Type of Finish: Parkerized
Finish Originality: Original to Rebuild
Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright and the rifling is sharp. There a few scattered spots of erosion, mostly toward the muzzle-end. The bore shows an M.E. of 1.9. The throat shows a T.E. of 4.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 70% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at all edges. There is scattered finish wear in all exposed areas, most notable on the gas cylinder, with stronger finish in the areas covered by the stock. There are some scattered nicks, scuffs and scratches. The action shows operational wear. Most of the markings are deep. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: A green canvas sling is included, showing light wear, in Very Good-plus condition.
Our Assessment: This WWII Springfield Armory M1 Garand was made back in 1943. It has been rebuilt using mostly Springfield parts. This rifle was in inventory for WWII, the Korean War and at least the early years of the Vietnam War. The rifle is still in nice shape, and will make a nice addition to a military rifle collection or a fun shooter.
