Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a traditional Semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, two sling loops, stacking ring, and a checkered metal butt plate with storage compartment. The LOP measures 13” inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The wood has been sanded and re-finished as a result the wood shows very light compressions, nicks, and surface level lines scattered throughout. There are no notable chips and no visible cracks. Also as a result of the sanding the butt plate and rear left corner of the receiver both sit slightly proud over the wood. The butt plate has lost most of its finish and shows rub wear around the edges. The door spring is strong and functions correctly. Overall the stock set is in Very Good condition.
Type of Finish: Parkerized
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is very bright and the rifling is well defined-sharp. There is no visible pitting, erosion, or rust in the bore. Our gauges show a muzzle of 1 and a throat erosion of 1. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9.75/10. It should be noted that this rifle has a Line Material Co. barrel. These are noted to be among the best M1 Garand barrels made in the 1950s.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show rub wear and finish loss from use. The receiver and trigger group have turned green/brown from age and oil. The barrel and gas cylinder show some surface level lines. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall this rifle is in Very Good+ condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was manufactured in March 1945 and is fitted with an Excellent Line Material Co barrel dated 2-1953, a pairing entirely consistent with post-war refurbishment. It wears a Red River Arsenal (“RRA”) marked stock, indicating Red River most likely did that post-war refurbishment, a common occurrence for rifles that remained in service through the late 1940s and beyond. Overall, the configuration reflects a late-production wartime rifle that later passed through stateside arsenal care while keeping key period features.
The M1 Garand, adopted in 1936, was the U.S. military’s first standard-issue semi-automatic service rifle and saw extensive service in World War II and Korea. Renowned for reliability, speed, and ruggedness, its eight-round en-bloc clip and gas-operated action gave American infantry a firepower advantage over bolt-action-equipped adversaries. Variants and updates appeared over time, but core design traits, strong sights, durable walnut stocks, and a smooth-cycling action, made the M1 an enduring icon. A 1945 Springfield with a LMR barrel and arsenal-marked stock neatly embodies that history while offering both collector interest and classic Garand character. This rifle with this barrel should prove to be a great shooter on the range. To better understand this M1 please see our high quality photos via the link and best of luck with your bidding!!!-R.L.
