Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a semi-pistol grip, metal nose caps, stacking loop, double sling loops, and a metal butt plate with hinged door for storage. The LOP measures 13” from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt plate. The wood shows compressions, rub marks, sanded areas, scratches and punch marks scattered throughout. There are some scuff chips on the toe and on the right lower edge towards the rear of the forward handguard. The nose caps have turned brown from age and show surface rust. The rear clip for the handguard also shows rust. There are no visible cracks in the wood. There is a notable marr on the left side just at the front of the receiver. The butt plate has lost its finish, turned brown with age and surface rust in places. The door spring is strong and functions correctly. Overall the stock is in about Fair+ condition.

Type of Finish:  Parkerized

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with well defined rifling, and very mild visible erosion/pitting throughout the bore. Our gauges show a muzzle of 3+ and a throat of 3+ as does the CMP grading card. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 7.25/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains 86% of its metal finish. The gas lock has lost its finish, the barrel, trigger group and receiver show finish thinning. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show mild rub wear. The gas cylinder has been replaced. The action is a little rough and will need to be oiled. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall the rifle is in about Fair+-Good condition.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle.  As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle includes the CMP grading tag and a leather sling.

Our Assessment: The Springfield Armory M1 Garand is one of the most iconic military rifles in history, serving as the standard-issue service rifle for U.S. forces during World War II and the Korean War. This particular example was manufactured in August 1943, a time when the U.S. was at the height of wartime production to equip troops for major operations in both the Pacific and European theaters. The barrel is dated June 1944, meaning it was produced shortly after the receiver, which is not uncommon as components were stockpiled and assembled in batches. Springfield Armory was the primary producer of the M1 Garand, manufacturing millions of rifles from the late 1930s through the 1950s. The Garand’s .30-06 chambering, semi-automatic gas-operated action, and 8-round en bloc clip made it revolutionary at the time, providing American troops with a significant advantage over the bolt-action rifles used by enemy forces.

This rifle was sold by the Civilian Marksmanship Program (CMP) in 2023 as a Field Grade rifle. This stock is not original to the rifle but bears a Danish inspection tag inside of the forend. Field Grade rifles are typically in functional condition but show signs of use, as they often saw extensive service before being refurbished and released to the civilian market. While not entirely in its original wartime configuration, this Garand remains a significant piece of history, allowing enthusiasts to own and shoot a rifle that played a crucial role in securing victory for the Allies during World War II.
