Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. The grooves show some scattered barely visible pitting in the bore while the lands are very clean and smooth. Our gauges show a muzzle of 2 and a throat of 2+. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. The friction surfaces of the bolt and receiver show visible rub wear. The majority of the finish loss on this rifle is on the cylinder lock and gas tube. The edges of the trigger guard are missing finish as well. The rear sight wings show rust. There are two notable nicks in the bottom metal. The forward handguard is slightly loose. The markings are clear and the screw heads are sharp. Overall the rifle is in about Good condition.

Mechanics:  The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle includes a Bandolier with 6x En-bloc clips.

Our Assessment: The M1 Garand was adopted by the U.S. Army in 1936 and became the standard American service rifle throughout World War II and the Korean War. Its semi-automatic operation gave U.S. troops a decisive advantage over enemy forces armed primarily with bolt-action rifles, delivering faster follow-up shots and greater battlefield effectiveness. General George S. Patton famously referred to the Garand as “the greatest battle implement ever devised,” a reflection of its reliability, durability, and transformative impact on modern infantry warfare.

This Springfield Armory M1 Garand was manufactured in February of 1943, placing it solidly within peak WWII production. It is fitted with an HRA (Harrington & Richardson) barrel dated 9-1951, indicating the rifle was re-barreled during a post-war arsenal overhaul, likely for continued service during the early Cold War period. The stock is marked “RRA,” denoting Red River Arsenal, which was known for conducting post-war rebuilds and upgrades. Together, these features suggest a combat-era receiver that was refurbished after WWII for extended military use, making this rifle a classic example of a wartime Garand updated through the U.S. arsenal system.
