Action Type: This pistol is a single/double action semi-auto with a removable magazine and a de-cocker. It is blowback operated.

Markings: The left side of the slide is marked “J.P. SAUER & SOHN, SUHL” and “CAL. 7,65”. The right rear of the frame is marked “368054” over an Eagle over “N” and the bottom-front of the slide is marked “054”. The right side of the slide is marked “PATENT”. The left side of the trigger guard bow has an Eagle / 37 stamp. The right side of the barrel is marked with an Eagle over “N”. There is an “H” factory mark on multiple parts of the gun. The front strap is marked “S. H. PAHS”.

Barrel Length: 3 3/8”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a short blade integral to the slide. The rear sight is a “U” notch dovetailed into the slide. The top of the slide is finely serrated in a wavy pattern to reduce glare.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grips are checkered black Bakelite with the intertwined “SS” logo near the bottom of the left grip. The smooth borders show scattered little nicks and marks. There are little scatters of discoloration in the checkering and the checkering is generally sharp. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the grips are in about Very Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is semi-bright with scattered light erosion and well defined rifling.

Overall Condition: This handgun retains about 91% of its metal finish. There are scattered tiny nicks and marks with the most notable on the slide. There is some light surface oxidation at the front of the rib. There are nicks along the edges of the frame. The butt of the grip shows light oxidation. There is standard operational wear. The screw heads are lightly tooled with strong slots. The markings are clear. Overall, this pistol is in about Very Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This pistol features a cocker/de-cocker mounted on the left side of the frame. There is a slide-mounted thumb safety. This pistol has a magazine disconnect. On this model, the slide does not lock back on an empty magazine. We did not fire this pistol. As with all firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This pistol comes with a non matching 8 round magazine. The magazine shows some faint oxidation and light operational wear, in about Very Good condition overall.

Our Assessment: This is a Nazi marked WWII J.P. Sauer & Sohn modell 38H, third variation. The estimated procurement of this variation was about 30,000. This pistol is in very good condition, retaining about 91% of its original finish. The mechanics are smooth and the bore is decent. The front strap is marked “S.H. PAHS”. We could ot figure out the significance of this marking but perhaps it would make a fun research project for a devoted collector. Please see our photos and good luck!
