Our Assessment: The Spreewerke P.38 pistols, made under the “cyq” code in the final years of WWII, were the most utilitarian of the three wartime producers. Lacking the refinement of Walther or Mauser examples, these Spreewerke pistols were manufactured in haste, but they retained the exceptional mechanical design of the P.38 platform. These were the standard sidearms of the Wehrmacht and SS in the latter stages of the war.
This 1943 example remains in very respectable condition with matching numbered parts and a bright, strong bore. The phosphate finish is typical of mid-war Spreewerke output, and the “cyq” and E/88 Waffenamts are correct. The functional double/single-action operation, de-cocker, and rugged locking block system all contributed to the P.38’s legendary reliability.
For collectors of WWII German sidearms, this is a desirable wartime P.38 with correct markings and condition, ideal for a historical collection or as an iconic shooter. Please see our high quality photos and good luck on your bid -M.C.
