Our Assessment: The M1 Carbine was developed in 1941 to provide U.S. forces with a lightweight, handy firearm, and its design is closely tied to David “Carbine” Williams, whose short-stroke gas piston system became a key element of the final design. Produced by a wide range of contractors during World War II, the M1 Carbine went on to serve not only in WWII but also in Korea and well into the Cold War with U.S. and allied forces. Winchester was one of the original and most respected prime contractors, responsible for both early development work and late-war production.

This Winchester M1 Carbine was manufactured during the final production window between June and August of 1945, representing some of the last wartime carbines produced. Notably, this example retains desirable Winchester-marked components, including the stock, handguard, and recoil lug, giving it strong originality and near correct manufacturer consistency. Late-war Winchester carbines like this one reflect the culmination of wartime refinement and remain highly sought after for their historical significance, making this rifle an excellent blend of collectability and classic M1 Carbine handling.
