Our Assessment: Winchester was one of ten primary contractors producing the M1 Carbine during WWII, and their production is highly sought after today for both historical and collector value. This example was made between February and November of 1944, right in the thick of wartime output. Like most carbines that remained in service after the war, it now has a mix of parts from different manufacturers—evidence of postwar arsenal rebuilds and maintenance programs that kept these rifles functional for decades. The receiver, barrel, and several small parts remain Winchester-marked, while other components, such as the trigger group, slide, and safety, bear the markings of Saginaw, Quality Hardware, and Inland, showing its journey through military service and refurbishment.

This rifle retains a bright, sharp bore rating 9/10, solid mechanics, and 93% of its Parkerized finish. The stock has been sanded and refinished but still bears its “IO” and Ordnance Wheel markings, adding to its authenticity. Complete with a green canvas sling and one 15-round magazine, it’s a solid representative of a Winchester-built M1 Carbine—combining shootable condition with historical significance. For collectors seeking a WWII carbine with strong original features and field-ready performance, this example strikes an appealing balance. Please see our photos and good luck on your bid! – L.S.
