Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 is an iconic American sporting rifle that has been a staple of hunters for more than 80 years; reliable, robust, and accurate, it is one of the benchmarks by which all bolt action rifles are measured. It has more than earned its nickname of “The Rifleman’s Rifle” and is one of the most iconic rifles around. This is a vintage pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 rifle chambered in .30-06 Springfield, it was made in 1939 during the rich and production post war years. .30-06 was the most popular chambering of the Pre-64 Model 70, with 200,000 being made. The .30-06 Springfield is a versatile cartridge that can be used for hunting medium-sized game such as deer and sheep, as well as larger animals like elk, black bear, and moose. It’s also used by competitive shooters. This example is in Great shape, showing modest wear. While this would still make a great hunting rifle, the Pre-64 Winchesters have high collector interest, and this example would be a great addition to a Winchester collection.
