Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. Our gauge shows an ME of about 0.5.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 92% of its metal finish. Most of the finish loss is in the floorplate which has handling wear and light scratches. The finish is lightly thinning at some edges, most notable on the trigger guard. The barrel and receiver have only a few scattered light marks. The bolt body shows light operational wear and the knob has handling wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Very Good-Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the top-rear of the bolt. Pushed forwards, the safety is ON. If pulled back all the way, the safety is OFF. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.

Our Assessment: This is a vintage pre-1964 Winchester Model 70 rifle chambered in .30-06 and is a quite early example made in 1937. The rifle is the “Standard Rifle” style with factory front iron sight. The rear sight has been replaced with a blank in favor of a Lyman receiver sight. Chambered for the classic .30-06 cartridge, this rifle and its sights will allow for fast target acquisition with a rifle suitable for just about any North American game. That said, the Pre-64 Winchesters have high collector interest, and this very early example would be a great addition to a Winchester collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
