Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 94AE XTR  CAL. 30-30 WIN. / –MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL–”. The top rear of the barrel at the rear is marked with a circled “WP” proof. The front underside of the receiver is marked with the serial number.

Barrel Length: 20”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded black blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a “U” notched leaf on an elevator ramp that is dovetailed into the top of the barrel. The top of the receiver is mounted with a Tasco W4x32 Riflescope with Duplex Crosshair Reticle. The scope is mounted in high mount rings, which makes dual use of both the scope and the iron sights possible. The sight picture, and glass in the scope is clear. The scope rates in Excellent to Like-New condition. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and an black plastic Winchester buttplate. On the right side of the buttstock, there is a Chevrolet Medallion inlaid into it. The medallion has the Chevy Emblem in the middle, and is marked “1985 CHEVY OUTDOORSMAN, WINCHESTER”. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. There are no notable signs of wear or use on the stocks. Overall, the stocks are in about Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright. The rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the barrel. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10. 

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99+% of its metal finish. The screw heads are sharp, and the pins are unmarred. There are no notable signs of wear on the finish of this rifle. The markings are clear and legible. Overall, this rifle is in about Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half cock safety position and there is a functioning lever safety present. The trigger pull is crisp. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes in its original locking hard case, Owner’s manual, paperwork, Tasco scope, and scope covers. 

Our Assessment: This 1985 Winchester Model 94AE XTR “Chevy Outdoorsman” is one of those rare, limited-run rifles that combines classic American craftsmanship with collector-grade crossover appeal. Mechanically, the rifle checks all the boxes—it remains in Excellent to Like-New condition with a mirror-bright bore, strong rifling, and virtually no visible finish wear. The factory checkered walnut stocks are crisp, unmarred, and retain a deep, rich luster. Topped with a Tasco 4×32 scope and mounted in high rings, the rifle preserves iron sight utility while adding versatility for field or range use. The fit and finish throughout are consistent with Winchester’s premium XTR line of the era.
