Our Assessment: This is a Winchester Model 94AE XTR with a 20” barrel chambered in .356 Winchester. The .356 Winchester is a semi-rimmed, bottle-necked, centerfire rifle cartridge which was designed for use in lever-action rifles. It was developed concurrently with the .307 Winchester which acted as the parent cartridge. Both cartridges were introduced in 1982 in the then-new Model 94 XTR lever-action rifle. This rifle was manufactured 1982-1988 and looks as though it was very well kept. It is in about Fine-Excellent condition, appearing to have seen few, if any, trips in the field, and very well maintained. Carbines like this one are quick handling and capable of fast shot strings as compared to a bolt action with a long barrel. This will make someone a great deer rifle for decades to come.
