Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 94AE CAL. 30-30 WIN. / -MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL-”. The top of the barrel bears the Winchester proof mark. The bottom of the receiver is marked with the serial number.
Barrel Length: 24”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a u notch semi-buckhorn elevator sight dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver has a pair of drilled, tapped, and filled holes.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are checkered walnut with a banded forearm, semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, belly sling stud, sling stud banded to the mag tube, and a checkered hard rubber Winchester buttplate. There are a few minor compression marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 5/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks rate in about Fine overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. There is some stubborn fouling on some of the lands. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light operation wear. There are light scratches on the receiver. There are small spots of finish loss on the lever. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. The receiver has a cross bolt safety. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94AE .30-30 is a modernized version of the legendary Winchester Model 1894, one of the most iconic lever-action rifles ever produced. The AE (Angle Eject) designation, introduced in the early 1980s, was a major improvement over the original top-eject design, allowing spent casings to eject at an angle rather than straight up. This modification made it easier to mount a scope, addressing one of the traditional limitations of earlier Winchester 94 models.
Chambered in .30-30 Winchester, the Model 94AE is a highly versatile hunting rifle, ideal for medium game like deer, hogs, and black bear. It features a 24-inch barrel, which provides an excellent balance of maneuverability and accuracy, especially in dense brush or wooded areas where quick handling is essential. The rifle retains the classic lever-action mechanism, a tubular magazine typically holding six rounds, and a hammer safety system. Later AE models also introduced a cross-bolt safety, which added an extra layer of security while handling the firearm.
The Model 94AE retains Winchester’s classic aesthetics, often featuring a blued steel finish and a walnut stock with checkering for a traditional look and feel. Known for its reliable action and smooth cycling, the Winchester 94AE remains a favorite among hunters, collectors, and lever-action enthusiasts. While production of the AE models ceased in the early 2000s, they are still widely sought after due to their modern functionality combined with Winchester’s legendary craftsmanship.
