Markings: The left of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 9422M .22 WIN. MAGNUM / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. – WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”, the top has a “WP” proof in oval. The underside of the receiver and trigger frame are marked with matching serial number “F189471”. The butt plate has Winchester Repeating Arms Co.’s markings.

Barrel Length: 20 ½” with full length magazine tube.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade, dovetailed onto a ramp base sitting before the forward barrel band, it is under a sight hood. The rear sight is a “U” notched leaf that is micro-adjustable for elevation, in a slide-step elevator base that is dovetailed onto the barrel. The receiver is slotted for dovetail claw mounts with a Weaver base holding a Bushnell Custom-DM 6x scope with crosshair reticle. The glass is fairly clear, the body shows minor handling wear, in about Very Good-Fine condition.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb and checkered black hard rubber buttplate. The stocks have a few scattered minor compressions and scuffs with a more notable ding on the right of the wrist at the top-front. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has light wear at the heel and toe and some worm-holes. Overall, the stocks are in about Very Good-plus condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The barrel has some very minor surface oxidation near the muzzle. The bolt and lever show light operational wear. The receiver has a few light scratches and handling marks. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester 9422M, based, of course on the company’s tried and true Model 94 Lever Action carbine. The standard 9422 was chambered for the .22 LR and shorter rimfire cartridges, but the 9422M is chambered for the more powerful .22 Magnum. This cartridge has more power, being suitable for larger varmints like coyote and can shoot further than the smaller rimfire cartridges. The action has to be felt to understand, with a flick of the wrist, you’ve already got another round chambered. The stocks have light wear, the bore is strong with sharp rifling and no erosion. This would be a great rifle for taking care of all kinds of varmint as well as being a nice piece to add to a Winchester collection. Please see our pictures and good luck!
