Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 9422M is a late-classic American lever gun built around the handy .22 Winchester Magnum Rimfire cartridge — a magnum rimfire that expanded small-game and varmint capability beyond the ubiquitous .22 Long Rifle. This 20″ barreled example keeps the form and function that made Winchester lever actions familiar on farms and feeders: tubular magazine feeding, a generous sight radius with a dovetailed elevator rear, and a scope-grooved receiver that accepts optics without compromising the rifle’s profile. Fitted with a Weaver V22 scope, the package is set up for precision small-game work at typical rimfire distances; note the scope tube shows light handling wear and some mild fogging inside the optics.
Cosmetically the rifle presents well, retaining roughly 97% of the factory blue with tidy screw heads and clear markings. The walnut stocks show light handling marks and rate Very Good; the bore checks bright with sharp rifling and rates 9/10. The included Weaver V22—while serviceable—shows the most handling wear in the lot and is reflected in the overall presentation. Offered as a 1973 C&R example with a complete appearance and practical optics already mounted, this 9422M is a straightforward, well-preserved example of Winchester’s magnum rimfire lever action.
