Markings: The left of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER MODEL 9422M .22 WIN. MAGNUM / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. – WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”, the top has a “WP” proof in oval. The underside of the receiver and trigger plate are marked with matching serial number “F725801”.

Barrel Length: Nominal 20″, 20 1/4” Measured.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade, dovetailed into a ramp base sitting before the forward barrel band, it is under a sight hood. The rear sight is a “U”-notch leaf and elevator sight with white triangle aiming reference. The notch is finely adjustable for elevation. The top of the receiever is grooved to accept optic mounts, a pair comes included.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered wood with banded forend, straight grip, straight comb, and checkered black hard rubber Winchester buttplate. There is a little compression on the belly towards the toe and there is a very small chip loss on the toe. The checkering is sharp with a few nicked peaks. There is a light compression on the right side of the forend at the rear. There are no cracks. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate has minor wear at the heel and toe with sharp checkering and lettering. Overall, the stocks are in Fine Plus condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There is a small spot of finish loss on the right side of the receiver from previous oxidation. There are some light marks from use and handling. There are a couple little marks into the finish on the bottom tang and there are a couple little oil marks on the receiver. There are light handling marks on the barrel and magazine tube. There is a little discoloration on the magtube cap. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in Fine Plus condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is a pair of rings, a serial matching box, and a manual. The box has a couple of minor creases and some light edge wear. A couple of the corners have split. The lid has a couple punctures and some spots of discoloration. The box is in about Very Good-Fine condition.

Our Assessment: This is a Winchester 9422, based, of course on the company’s tried and true Model 94 Lever Action carbine. The 9422 is chambered for the .22 Magnum cartridge, making for a fun little plinker or pest control gun. The action has to be felt to understand, with a flick of the wrist, you’ve already got another round chambered. This 9422 is in Fine Plus condition, showing little sign of use, and a few little defects. This would be a great rifle for taking care of all kinds of varmint as well as being a nice piece to add to a Winchester collection. Please see our pictures and good luck!
