Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “- WINCHESTER MODEL 9417 CAL 17 HMR ONLY”, along with Winchester’s New Haven address, and “WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The top of the barrel is marked with a circled “WP” proof mark. The bottom of the receiver is marked with the serial number.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade, dovetailed to a serrated ramp, screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is a semi-buckhorn U-notch sight, on a riser, dovetailed to the barrel. The top of the receiver is grooved for optics.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are a two-piece checkered walnut stock set, with a straight grip, straight comb, checkered plastic Winchester buttplate, and a checkered banded forend. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stocks show light storage and handling wear, with only a few minor compressions scattered throughout. The checkering is well defined, and the stocks fit tightly to the frame, with no play. There are no chips or cracks. Overall, the stocks rate in Fine condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows no notable wear, other than some dust accumulation from storage. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp, and the pins are unmarred. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the half-cock safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with its original serial number matching box, owner’s manual/paperwork, and hammer extension.
Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 9417 represents one of the more interesting late-production evolutions of the classic 94-series rimfire lever actions, pairing traditional Winchester handling with the modern .17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire cartridge. Produced in the early 2000s by Winchester at the New Haven plant, the 9417 was designed to capitalize on the .17 HMR’s flat trajectory and impressive rimfire accuracy while retaining the familiar balance and feel of the Model 94-derived platform. As production was relatively short-lived, these rifles have developed a strong following among both shooters and collectors.
This example is exceptionally well preserved. The rifle retains approximately 99 percent of its original blued finish, which remains deep and even throughout, with only light evidence of storage. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and shows no erosion, rating a full 10 out of 10. The checkered walnut stocks remain tight to the action, with crisp checkering and only minor handling compressions visible, consistent with careful ownership. Markings are clear and legible, screw heads are sharp, and overall presentation is notably clean.
Mechanically, the lever action operates smoothly and correctly, with the half-cock safety functioning as intended. The inclusion of the original serial-number-matching box, manual, and hammer extension further enhances this rifle’s desirability. Overall, this Winchester Model 9417 stands as a fine to excellent example of a modern rimfire lever action that bridges classic Winchester styling with contemporary rimfire performance.
