Markings:
The barrel is marked “WINCHESTER – MODEL 94 30-30 WIN – MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A. WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL.” The right side of the barrel is script-engraved “Limited Edition II by Winchester.” The receiver features gold-toned brass plating with game scene engravings—whitetail deer in a forest on the left and moose pursued by wolves on the right. The underside of the receiver is engraved “MODEL 1894 WINCHESTER.” The serial number “78L294” is stamped on the front of the receiver beneath the forend cap.

Gold bead front sight on a ramped base and semi-buckhorn rear sight with elevator.

Stock Configuration & Condition:
Two-piece walnut stock with checkered forend and straight grip, finished in a high-gloss polish with deep figure.

Type of Finish:
High-polish blue barrel and magazine tube, gold-toned brass receiver and furniture.

Bore Condition:
The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition:
Approximately 99% original finish remains with only faint handling wear from storage. The brass receiver and furniture show a uniform warm tone with sharp engraving. The stock and forend remain excellent with crisp checkering and a glossy presentation-grade finish.

Mechanics:
The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories:
The rifle is housed in its factory velvet-lined wooden presentation case with brass hardware. Included are the Olin/Winchester congratulatory letter dated May 24, 1979, warranty card, nameplate order form, Limited Edition II booklet, and Winchester Authorized Service Centers pamphlet.

Our Assessment:
The Winchester Model 94 Limited Edition II was the continuation of Winchester’s late-1970s commemorative series, designed to celebrate the craftsmanship and legacy of the Model 1894 lever action. Manufactured in New Haven under Olin’s stewardship, these rifles combined the timeless reliability of the 94 action with fine presentation-grade finishes and engraving evocative of American big game hunting. The brass-plated receiver scenes of deer and moose exemplify Winchester’s artistry during this transitional period in production.

Chambered in .30-30 Winchester, a cartridge synonymous with the Model 94 since 1895, this rifle remains one of the most enduring combinations in lever-action history, revered for its balance of power, accuracy, and field utility. The inclusion of all factory materials and the dated Olin letter authenticating manufacture on May 24, 1979, elevates this example from collectible to investment grade.
