Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth wood with beautiful figuring, capped forearm, straight grip, straight comb, and checkered metal butt plate. There is a faint crack extending from the upper tang to the right. A portion of wood has been repaired on the rear right side of the forearm. There are a couple other sparse light marks. The LOP measures 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate, which shows erosion along the edges. The stocks rate in Good overall condition and would rate higher if not for the crack and the repaired portion.
Type of Finish: Blue
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright. There is some faint erosion mid bore. The rifling is sharp. There is an M.E. of about 1.0.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 96% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows scattered faint scratches throughout the surfaces. The trigger has taken a plum hue. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are sharp. There is a saddle ring on the left of the receiver. Overall, the rifle rates in about Fine-Plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions properly. There is some oxidation in the action making it a bit stiff. The lever safety is present and functional. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This gun comes in its original serial matching box with paperwork, no manual.
Our Assessment: The Model 1894 has been referred to as the “ultimate lever-action design” by firearms historians such as R. L. Wilson and Hal Herring. The Model 1894 is the rifle credited with the name “Winchester” being used to refer to all rifles of this type and was the first commercial sporting rifle to sell over 7,000,000 units. This is a Model 94 Classic with a saddle ring on the left side of the receiver and a 26” bore and has a bright bore with deep rifling. This one’s a beauty, drop a bid. Please see our photos and good luck!
