Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut with a blued metal capped semi-pistol grip, schnabel forend, fluted straight comb, red rubber Winchester buttpad, and sling studs front and rear. The LOP measures 13 1/2″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light handling wear, with only a couple of minor scratches. The checkering is well defined. The stock fits the barreled action tightly, with no play. Overall, the stock rates in Excellent condition.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light operational wear on the action, with some minor finish thinning on the friction surfaces. The bluing is deep and dark throughout. The jeweling on the bolt is vivid and bright. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are lightly tooled, but all retain strong and serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Fine to Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the safety. The trigger has a crisp and clean break. This rifle employs a Controlled Round Feed bolt. The safety is mounted at the back of the bolt on the right side. It has three positions. Pushed all the way forwards, the safety is off and ready to fire. In the middle position, the safety blocks the trigger, but allows the bolt to be opened for loading and unloading. In the rear position, the safety blocks the trigger and the bolt. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope rings as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 SA Classic Featherweight is a tasteful, modern-era interpretation of a storied bolt-action platform, offered here in a finely preserved form that displays the line’s traditional elegance and field-ready ergonomics. Its 22″ barrel, controlled-feed action, and well-proportioned Featherweight profile give the rifle a purposeful balance for hunting, while retaining the sort of blued finish and action jeweling collectors expect from a late-20th century Winchester.

Chambered in .308 Winchester, the cartridge is a versatile, hard-working choice for medium game and general-purpose shooting; paired with the vivid jeweling on the bolt and a bright 10/10 bore, this example reads as a rifle built for accuracy and consistent performance. Notable selling points include roughly 99% of the original deep, dark bluing, crisp checkered walnut furniture in Excellent condition, and the fitted two-piece Leupold-style base and rings that make optic mounting straightforward for the buyer who prefers a scoped setup.

This Model 70 will suit a buyer looking for a refined hunting rifle that carries both practical capability and collectible appeal: shooters will appreciate the rifle’s handling and bright bore, while collectors will value the strong finish retention and factory features. The included rings add immediate utility for optics installation and help make this rifle a turn-key example for field use or a tasteful addition to a Classic Winchester grouping.
