Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 Safari Express carries the Model 70’s long-standing reputation for a solid, controlled-round-feed action updated for modern production; this later-run Safari Express example presents as a thoughtfully equipped, conservation-minded rifle finished in satin Grade 1 walnut and deep matte bluing. Visually, it is essentially as-new — the stock shows no notable wear, checkering remains well defined, the Redfield 2–7x scope and leather Winchester sling are included and show only minor handling marks, and the metal surfaces retain more than 99% of their original finish with sharp markings and bright bolt jeweling.
