Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70, often called the “Rifleman’s Rifle”, is one of the most iconic American bolt-action rifles of the 20th century. This example, chambered in the powerful .300 H&H Magnum, was manufactured in 1958, during the golden pre-64 era of Winchester production. About 37,186 Winchester Model 70s are chambered for the .300 H&H cartridge. The .300 H&H was once the dominant long-range magnum cartridge, used extensively for big game hunting in North America and Africa, as well as for competitive shooting before the rise of the .300 Win. Mag.
This rifle features a 26” barrel, original finish, excellent 9.5/10 bore, and solid walnut stock with classic Winchester checkering. At over 65 years old, it remains in Excellent condition with almost all finish intact and strong mechanics. For collectors, pre-64 Model 70 rifles in magnum chamberings like the .300 H&H are highly sought after. For hunters, it still represents a capable and elegant big-game rifle.
