Barrel Length: 22”
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a hooded beaded blade, dovetailed to a serrated ramp, screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable flip-up U-notch sight with a white triangle aiming reference, dovetailed to the barrel. The receiver is mounted with a Redfield 4-12x scope with a fine crosshair reticle. The glass in the scope is clear. The scope shows light wear, with scattered dings and scratches scattered throughout the scope’s finish. Overall, the scope rates in Good to Very Good condition. The scope is mounted on a one-piece Weaver base, and sits in 1” Weaver rings.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece checkered walnut stock, with a semi-pistol grip, fluted raised comb, vented rubber buttpad, and sling rings front and rear. The LOP measures 13 5/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The stock shows light to moderate wear, with scattered scratches, dings, and scuffs throughout. The checkering is well defined, and the stock fits the barreled action tightly, with no play. There are no structurally compromising chips or cracks. The stock’s finish is showing some thinning on the bottom of the forend, and the buttpad is starting to crack. There is a condensed group of dings just in front of the bolt handle. Overall, the stock rates in Good condition.
Type of Finish: Blued
Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows operational wear on the friction portions of the action, along with scattered light scratches throughout the finish on the barrel, receiver, and trigger guard. There is some thinning finish on the leading edges of the hinged floorplate as well. Otherwise, the bluing is mostly intact, deep and dark. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are sharp. Overall, this rifle rates in Good to Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the 3-position safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope as mentioned above.
Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 Featherweight is a classic American sporting rifle — introduced as a lighter, more carry-friendly variant of the Model 70, it has long been prized for its elegant lines and reliable Mauser-style controlled feed. Chambered in .30-06 Springfield, a century-proven cartridge known for broad-range performance on medium to large game, this 1955 Featherweight combines period authenticity with practical versatility.
This example presents attractively for its age, retaining about 95% of its original metal finish with deep, mostly intact bluing, a bright 10/10 bore, and well-defined checkering on the walnut stock. The stock shows light-to-moderate handling wear (including finish thinning on the forend and early cracking beginning in the buttpad), the receiver and bolt carry clear markings and sharp screw heads, and the rifle is supplied with a Redfield 4–12x scope mounted on a one-piece Weaver base — a ready, collectible Model 70 Featherweight with solid original finish and excellent bore condition.
