Our Assessment:
This is a pre-war Winchester Model 70 chambered in .30-06 Springfield, with a low 5-digit serial number placing its manufacture in 1940. It sports a 24″ barrel, a hooded front sight, and an upgraded Lyman receiver peep sight—an excellent period-correct precision enhancement. The top of the receiver has been drilled and tapped for optics, adding versatility without detracting from the rifle’s clean lines.
The Model 70 earned its reputation as the “Rifleman’s Rifle” during this era, offering legendary controlled-round feed and excellent accuracy. Combined with its classic walnut stock and checkering, this example is representative of Winchester’s craftsmanship during the company’s golden years.
Whether you’re a collector looking for a desirable pre-war variant or a shooter who appreciates timeless quality in a field-capable package, this Model 70 delivers. Don’t miss this chance to own a piece of American bolt-action history. So bid high and bid firm. I encourage you to take a look at the condition in our high quality photos. Good luck on your bid. -K.F.
