Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “-WINCHESTER MODEL 70  270 WEATHERBY MAG.- / –MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CT U.S.A.–”. The left side of the receiver is marked “WINCHESTER / –TRADE MARK–”. The right side of the receiver, ahead of the chamber, is marked “G179708”. The right side of the barrel is marked “-CLASSIC STAINLESS-”. The bottom of the bolt is hand scribed “9708”.

Sights / Optics: There are no provisions for iron sights. Equipped to the top of the receiver via a two piece rail are two 1” diameter rings for mounting a scope.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is one-piece checkered synthetic with a capped pistol grip, fluted straight comb, sling swivels front and rear with a black sling attached, and a firm black rubber Winchester buttpad. There are scattered light draglines, scratches, and handling marks. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 5/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttpad. The pad shows rub wear, most notably at the heel and toe. The stock rates in about Fine overall condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 94% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows infrequently dispersed tiny nicks and handling marks. There is some stubborn residue from a previously applied piece of tape at the rear right side of the receiver. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. There is a safety mounted on the bolt sleeve. Pushed forwards, the safety is OFF. If pulled back all the way, it locks both the bolt and the trigger. If pulled back half-way, it blocks only the trigger. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: Included is the previously mentioned black canvas sling. The sling shows minimal wear and no rips, tears, or fraying. Overall, the sling rates in about Excellent condition.
