Our Assessment:  This Winchester Model 64 dates to 1953 and represents one of the final and most mature iterations of Winchester’s premium sporting lever rifle built on the Model 1894 action. Introduced in 1933, the Model 64 was intended to offer a more refined alternative to the standard Model 94, with improved stock geometry, upgraded furniture, and a cleaner sporting profile. By the early 1950s, the Model 64 had become a favorite among discerning hunters who wanted traditional lever action reliability paired with more modern handling characteristics.

Chambered in .30-30 Winchester, this rifle reflects the cartridge’s continued prominence well into the postwar era as the benchmark North American deer round. The 24 inch barrel provides excellent balance and efficient velocity, and the bore remains bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, rating a strong 9 out of 10. Winchester Proof Steel barrel markings and WP proofs are clear and correct, and the installed Lyman receiver sight represents a period appropriate sighting upgrade that enhances practical accuracy while maintaining the rifle’s classic appearance, even with the original rear barrel sight now absent.

Overall condition is very good for a C&R example, retaining approximately 85 percent of its original blued finish. The metal shows scattered handling wear and minor corrosion marks consistent with normal field use, while the markings remain sharp and well defined. The smooth walnut stocks retain their correct semi beavertail forend, capped pistol grip, and checkered steel shotgun style buttplate, showing only light surface wear and finish loss without structural cracks or chips. Mechanically, the action operates smoothly with a crisp trigger and properly functioning lever and half cock safeties, presenting this rifle as a well preserved example of Winchester’s late pre 1964 sporting craftsmanship.
