Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 62A is a beautifully preserved example of one of America’s most beloved pump-action rimfire rifles. Produced in 1947 this was among the middle years of production for the Model 62A, which was introduced in 1939 as an improved version of the original Model 62. Built with classic American craftsmanship, the 62A is known for its smooth slide-action operation, reliability, and versatility with .22 Short, Long, and Long Rifle cartridges. The rifle features a takedown design for easy transport and cleaning, making it a favorite among small game hunters, plinkers, and collectors alike. This example remains in outstanding condition, retaining approximately 95% of its original blued finish with only faint signs of handling and light operational wear. The walnut stocks, featuring the correct 17-groove pump grip and straight wrist, and rate in Excellent condition with no chips or cracks. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and minor fouling, rating a 9/10, and the internals show only dry grease, suggesting it has seen minimal use. The receiver, barrel, and proof marks remain crisp, and the mechanical action is smooth and functional, complete with takedown capability and a half-cock safety.

For collectors of classic rimfire rifles or those seeking a functional and accurate .22 with vintage charm, this Winchester Model 62A is an exceptional find. Its condition, factory originality, and high level of finish retention make it not only a capable shooter but a worthy addition to any Winchester or American sporting arms collection. It’s a fine representation of postwar Winchester quality and a lasting reminder of simpler times on the range or in the woods. -C.M.
