Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER – MODEL 52 – .22 LONG R. / – TRADE MARK – MADE IN U.S.A. – WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL.” The left side of the receiver is marked “WINCHESTER / TRADE MARK” and “52.” The top of the barrel and receiver are marked with the Winchester proof stamp. The serial number “80660C” is marked on the right side of the receiver.

Sights / Optics: There are three sight blocks installed along the barrel. A sight block is mounted to the rear left of the receiver for aperture or match sight installation. No sights are currently mounted.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece smooth walnut with a semi-pistol grip, straight comb, and steel buttplate. There are dual sling loops mounted at the toe and forearm. The LOP measures 13.5″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The wood is free of cracks or chips and shows only minimal handling marks. The stock rates in about Excellent overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright, the rifling is sharp. There is no visible erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish shows only faint operational wear, with a few scattered handling marks and minor finish thinning at the edges of high-contact points. There is no evidence of corrosion or oxidation. The screw heads are sharp. The pins are clean. The markings are crisp and fully legible. Overall, this rifle rates in about Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 52 is often referred to as the “King of .22s,” and with good reason. Designed for target and competition shooting, the Model 52 boasts incredible accuracy, precision machining, and a storied reputation among small-bore enthusiasts. This particular rifle, manufactured in 1954, falls into the transitional post-war era of production, just before the introduction of the Model 52D.
With its clean blued finish, high-grade walnut stock, and CMP provenance, this example represents a fine piece of American precision manufacturing. The installed sight blocks and rear receiver mount allow the next owner to install match-grade sights or optics of their choosing for competition use. Though it does not include a magazine, replacements are readily available.
For collectors, CMP shooters, or anyone seeking a historically significant and high-quality rimfire bolt-action rifle, this Model 52 is an ideal candidate.
