Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 42 was introduced in 1933 as a scaled-down version of the legendary Model 12, specifically designed to handle the .410 bore. It quickly gained favor among sportsmen for its trim size, reliability, and the fun challenge of busting clays and dropping game with the small but mighty .410 shell. Built with the same takedown construction and quality craftsmanship Winchester was known for, the Model 42 has since become a true classic among American shotguns.

This particular example, manufactured in 1952, features a desirable 26” barrel with a full choke, perfect for tight patterns on squirrels or skeet. The wood shows honest wear, while the finish remains strong and original—evidence of care without over-restoration. Its matching serial numbers and solid mechanical function only add to its appeal.

Collectors will appreciate the Model 42’s place in Winchester’s golden era of production, while shooters will find it a joy to run on the range or in the field. These guns are not just attractive, they’re addictive. Please see our high quality photos and good luck on your bid! -M.C.
