Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “—–MANUFACTURED BY THE—– / U. S. REPEATING ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CT. USA”. The left shoulder of the barrel “–WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL– / ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER” and a Winchester proof. The upper tang is marked “MODEL 1894 / –WINCHESTER– / PAT. AUG. 21. 1894”. The top rear of the barrel is marked “30 W.C.F.” with a Winchester “WP” proof mark.  The bottom of the receiver is stamped with the serial number “CNL2201”.  The right shoulder of the barrel is marked “1894-1994”.  The sides of the receiver have decorative border and scroll engraving and show game scenes. The grip cap is marked “WINCHESTER / 1894-1994”.

Engraving:  The sides of the receiver are meticulously engraved with a scrollwork background and border.  Each side also has gold inlay borders, outlines and game scenes showing  a Bighorn Ram on one side and a Whitetail buck on the other side.  

Barrel Length: 26” Half Round Half Octagonal, Half Length tubular magazine.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a tall beaded blade that is dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a U-notch Semi-Buckhorn sight with a white triangle aim guide and elevator piece that is dovetailed to the barrel. The upper tang is drilled, tapped, and installed with a LYMAN #1 tang sight. 

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece Deluxe checkered wood with a capped forearm, capped pistol grip, straight comb, and a crescent blued buttplate. The beautiful wood checkering is Winchester’s “F” Style on the buttstock and forearm.   Checkering is slightly worn but still sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the rear of the buttplate, which shows no wear. Overall, the stocks rate in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling sharp. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 99% of its metal finish. The balance of the finish is strong and complete throughout. The finish on the lever exhibits minor thinning.  There is no notable operational wear on the action. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are crisp. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly and smoothly. The lever safety is present and functions properly and the trigger is crisp. The receiver also contains a push safety that blocks the hammer from hitting the pin. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 94 Limited Edition Centennial High Grade was made in 1994 (to celebrate the 100th year production of the Winchester 1894 Rifle) with 3,000 manufactured. The rifles feature No. 6 style engraving pattern (rolled) on both sides of the receiver with gold outlines and 2 gold animals (mountain sheep and deer), F-style checkering and carving, pistol grip stock with black plastic grip cap, deluxe wood, Lyman No.1 mounted tang sight, 26 inch half-round half-octagon barrel, half tube magazine, blue steel crescent butt-plate, and chambered in .30 W.C.F. (30-30).

This example is in excellent overall condition, retaining 99% original finishes, limited handling evidence, and sharp stock checkering. Mechanically excellent, Winchester’s Model 1894 Limited Edition Centennial High Grade lever-action rifle was manufactured in 1994 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the iconic Model 1894. The receiver showcases No. 6-style rolled engraving with Gold inlay on both sides, complemented by a blued steel crescent buttplate. The deluxe checkered walnut stock and forearm and a pistol grip with a black plastic cap, enhances both aesthetics and handling.  Mechanically sound and visually striking, it appeals to both collectors and enthusiasts of classic lever-action firearms.
