Action Type: This rifle has a lever action with a full-length tubular magazine.

Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “NICKEL STEEL BARREL ESPECIALLY FOR SMOKELESS POWDER”.  The bottom of the receiver is marked “63685”. The top of the receiver is marked “30 W.C.F.” where the barrel meets the reciever. About midway on the the top of the barrel it reads “- MANUFACTURED BY THE – WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A. -.” On top of where the butt stock meets the receiver it reads “MODEL 1894 – WINCHESTER – PAT. AUG. 21. 1894.”

Barrel Length: 26”, Round

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a Lyman fixed sight dovetailed into the barrel. The rear sight is a V-Notched elevator sight dovetailed to the barrel. The receiver is not drilled or tapped.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are 2-piece smooth walnut with a straight grip and straight comb. The buttplate is metal in a good shape. The stocks show some operational wear with some small compressions and scratches. The LOP measures 12 ¾ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the butt stock. Overall, the stocks are in about Very-Good condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is dull and the rifling shows some wear. There some erosion in the bore.  In this writer’s opinion the bore rates 6/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 85% of its metal finish. The finish is thinning at some edges. The barrel and magazine tube have some strong finish remaining, with some nicks and scuffs, and a few small oxidation spots. The action shows operational wear. Most of the screw heads are sharp and unmarred with the exception of one marred screw head. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, but is a bit stiff. The hammer has a half-cock safety and the lever safety functions properly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
