Markings: The left side of the top barrel is marked “WINCHESTER® – 20 GAUGE – 2 3/4″ & 3” XTR / NEW HAVEN, CONN. – U.S.A.”, under the stock line the top barrel is marked “MOD. ***, the bottom is marked “IMP. CYLD ****” and each has a Winchester proof. The right side of the top barrel is marked “MADE IN JAPAN”. The top of the vent rib is marked “PIGEON GRADE”. The bottom of the bottom barrel is marked “WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The bottom of the monoblock is marked “267031”. The forend iron is marked “267031” and the forend wood is marked “7031”. The top tang is marked “PK267031”. The bottom of the receiver is marked with an engraving of a pigeon and “WINCHESTER”. The water table is marked with an ovalled “WP” proof. The receiver, trigger guard, exposed portions of the forend iron and the barrel shoulders have decorative scroll and floral engraving.

Sights / Optics: There is a white bead in a base at the front of the rib. The top of the rib is checkered for glare reduction.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut featuring a forend with finger grooves, a semi-pistol grip, a fluted straight comb and serrated black plastic buttplate. The stocks have only a few scattered minor marks. The checkering is well defined. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 1/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Drop at comb is approximately 1 1/2″, drop at comb 2 3/4″. The plate has minor wear with well defined serrations. Overall, the stocks are in Fine-Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are mostly bright. There is no erosion in either bore, but there is a little stubborn fouling. In this writer’s opinion, these bores rate 9 out of 10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are two tiny spots of minor oxidation at the right-rear edge of the receiver. The barrels have faint wear from the forend, concealed when installed. The action shows minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun is in Fine-plus condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. The barrel lockup is tight with no play. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This shotgun comes in a Winchester luggage case with keys for the case.
Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 101 XTR is a double-barrel shotgun that was produced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company (Olin Kodensha in Tochigi, Japan) from the late 1970s through the 1990s. It was an upgraded version of the standard Model 101 shotgun and was designed with the competitive shooter in mind. The Winchester 101 features a high-gloss finish on the stock and receiver, and has a chrome lined barrel and top tang safety. The XTR model also has a special engraving pattern on the receiver and forend. Overall, the Winchester 101 XTR is a well-regarded shotgun that is known for its reliability and quality construction. It was popular among clay target shooters and hunters alike. This is a 26″ barrel example chambered for 20 gauge choked Modified and Improved Cylinder, so it should make a good gun for upland birds. In Fine-plus condition, this shotgun has very minor wear and still has bright bores and strong mechanics, indicating proper maintenance. Please see our photos and good luck!
