Action Type: Top-Break Over/Under Shotgun with Single Selective Trigger (Mechanical) and Ejectors.
Markings: The left side of the top barrel is marked “MODEL 101 – WINCHESTER – 12 GAUGE-2 ¾” / “MADE IN JAPAN”. The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHETER, NEW HAVEN, CONN.” The bottom of the barrel is marked WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The left of the monoblock is marked “FULL / MOD”, and each barrel with an ovalled “WP” and “SP” proof. The top tang is marked “K137730”. The receiver, trigger guard, exposed portions of the forend iron and the barrel shoulders have decorative scroll engraving.”. The bottom of the receiver is marked “OlinKodensha / Co. Ltd”. The inside bottom of the receiver has several proofs.
Barrel Length: 28” With Ventilated Rib.
Choke: Fixed chokes. The barrels are marked FULL over MOD
Sights / Optics: There is a fixed green fiber optic front sight at the front of the rib.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with full length finger shelf forend, Fluted semi-monte carlo stock with capped semi-pistol grip and black White Line ventilated buttpad. The LOP measures 13 7/ 8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the recoil pad. The cast is about neutral. The wood shows very minimal handling wear with scattered marks and fine lines. There are no chips or cracks in the wood. Overall the stock is in Excellent condition.

Finish Originality: Original
Bore Condition: The smooth bores are mirror bright with no erosion. There are no really visible lines and no plastic fouling. In this writer’s opinion the bores rates 10/10.
Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 98% of its metal finish. The barrels show some minor fading of finish. The leading edges of the receiver, muzzle trigger guard and trigger show some minor finish loss. The screw heads are sharp and the markings are clear. Overall this shotgun is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The barrels lock up to the receiver with no play. The safety does not engage automatically when the action is opened, and does function properly when engaged manually. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 101, made in 1970, represents a classic era of over-and-under shotgun craftsmanship.
