Barrel Length: 22”

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a brass beaded blade, dovetailed to a serrated ramp, screwed to the barrel. The rear sight is an adjustable flip-up U-notch sight with a white triangle aiming reference, dovetailed to the barrel. The receiver is mounted with a one-piece Weaver scope base and 1″ rings for optics.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stock is a one-piece, press-checkered (“basket-weave”) walnut stock, with a capped semi-pistol grip, fluted straight comb, checkered plastic buttplate, a checkered forend, and sling rings front and rear. The LOP measures 13 3/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock shows light wear, with scattered scratches, dings, and compressions throughout. The stock’s finish is largely intact, and the stock fits tightly to the barreled action, with no play. The stock appears to have been refinished at some point in its life, as there is evidence of sanding in the checkering. There is one small chip on the bottom of the left side of the wrist, and one small chip in the checkering on the right side of the wrist. There are no visible cracks, and no structurally compromising issues. Overall, the stock rates in Good condition.

Magazine Quantity & Condition: 1x 4rd factory magazine, in Very Good condition. The magazine is for a Model 88, but functions correctly. The magazine does not allow the bolt to be locked open when empty.

Type of Finish: Blued

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 10/10.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its original metal finish. The balance of the finish shows light wear, with a few light scratches and dints throughout the metal surfaces. There is some minor thinning of the finish on the top of the receiver by the scope base. The barrel and bottom metal are starting to show some oxidation. Otherwise, the bluing is largely intact. The markings are clear and legible. The screw heads are tooled but retain serviceable slots. Overall, this rifle rates in Good condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly, as does the cross-bolt safety. We did not fire this rifle, but we did perform a mechanic’s check. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes with the scope mount, rings, and the magazine as mentioned above.

Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 100 chambered in .284 Winchester stands as one of the most interesting and least common factory offerings in Winchester’s post-war sporting rifle lineup. Introduced in the early 1960s, the Model 100 was Winchester’s flagship semi-automatic sporting rifle, and the .284 Winchester chambering brought genuine innovation to the platform. Designed to deliver .270- and .280-class ballistics in a short action, the .284 Winchester is now highly regarded by knowledgeable collectors, especially when encountered in factory semi-automatic form.

This 1965-manufactured example retains approximately 95 percent of its original metal finish, with light, honest wear visible throughout. Minor scratches, small dings, and light thinning at the top of the receiver near the scope base are present, along with early oxidation beginning on the barrel and bottom metal, all consistent with careful field use rather than abuse. The bore is a standout, remaining bright with sharp rifling and no visible erosion, earning a 10/10 bore rating. Factory iron sights remain intact, and the rifle is currently fitted with a one-piece Weaver base and rings, allowing straightforward optic mounting while preserving the rifle’s classic profile.

The press-checkered walnut stock shows evidence of an older refinish, with some sanding visible in the checkering, along with small chips at the wrist that do not affect structural integrity. Fit to the action remains tight and solid. The included 4-round magazine, originally for the Model 88 but fully functional in this rifle, feeds properly, though it does not lock the bolt open when empty, a known compatibility quirk worth noting. With its correct configuration, desirable chambering, and strong mechanical and bore condition, this Winchester Model 100 in .284 Winchester represents a scarce and historically significant variant that will appeal to collectors of classic Winchester semi-automatics as well as enthusiasts of uncommon factory chamberings.
