Markings: The left shoulder of the barrel is marked “Winchester-U.S. REPEATING ARMS CO., NEW HAVEN, CT. U.S.A. / JAPAN/ MIROKU”, “-Winchester Trade Marks Licensed from Olin Corporation”. The right side of the barrel is marked “Cal 45-90 Black Powder Only / Limited Series”, the top tang is marked “WINCHESTER / MODEL 1886”. The bottom front of the receiver is marked with the serial number.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a beaded blade dovetailed to the barrel. The rear sight is a semi buckhorn U notch leaf with elevator dovetailed into the barrel.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut with capped forend, straight grip, straight comb, and blued steel crescent buttplate. There are scattered compression dents, scratches and handling marks throughout. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 13 1/4″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. Overall, the stocks are in Good condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion. There is fouling. In this writer’s opinion, the bore rates 9.5/10.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. There are minor handling marks and scratches throughout. The screwheads are sharp. The screws are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Very Good condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lever lock-up is tight and the trigger is crisp. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 1886 takedown rifle, manufactured by Miroku in 2004 as part of a limited series, is a faithful modern recreation of one of John Browning’s strongest and most respected lever action designs. The original Model 1886 was engineered to handle large black powder cartridges and quickly earned a reputation for strength, smooth operation, and durability on the American frontier. In this modern Miroku-built example, Winchester revisits that legacy with contemporary machining and metallurgy while preserving the classic lines, takedown configuration, and long octagonal barrel that define the model’s historical character under the banner of Winchester Repeating Arms.
Chambered in .45-90 WCF and marked for black powder use, this rifle features a 26 inch octagonal barrel well suited to the cartridge’s traditional role as a long-range, heavy-hitting sporting round of the late 19th century. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and no erosion present, though fouling is noted, resulting in a strong 9.5 out of 10 bore rating. Approximately 97 percent of the original blued finish remains, with only minor handling marks and light scratches visible. Screw heads remain sharp, markings are clear and legible, and the metal surfaces present evenly, supporting an overall Very Good condition assessment.
The two-piece smooth walnut stocks are configured with a capped forend, straight grip, straight comb, and blued steel crescent buttplate, all in keeping with classic Winchester styling. The wood shows scattered compression dents, scratches, and handling marks consistent with use, but there are no chips or cracks, and the stocks rate Good overall. The takedown system is properly fitted, the lever locks up tightly, and the trigger exhibits a crisp break. Mechanically sound and visually authentic, this Miroku-built Model 1886 offers the appeal of a historic Winchester big-bore lever action paired with modern production quality, accompanied by its original box.
