Our Assessment:. Winchester’s Super Grade has long been the pinnacle of the Model 70 line, and this 1970-production rifle chambered in .458 Winchester Magnum is no exception. Built during the post-’64 transition era, this Push Feed variant was designed with African game hunters in mind—offering tremendous stopping power in a refined and shootable package. The deep-blued finish and finely checkered Monte Carlo walnut stock embody the classic styling Winchester was known for, and the factory Super Grade floorplate marks it as a top-tier offering.
The rifle features a 22″ barrel with factory express sights—ideal for dangerous game scenarios—alongside a 4x scope securely mounted in 1″ rings on a two-piece base, making this rifle ready for anything from heavy brush hunting to open savannahs. Despite its power, the balance and handling of the Model 70 Super Grade remain exceptional, and the included ventilated red rubber Winchester pad helps manage recoil from the powerful .458 cartridge.
With its near-pristine bore, clean mechanics, and highly desirable chambering, this rifle is an outstanding choice for collectors of big game rifles, safari enthusiasts, or anyone seeking a classic bolt gun chambered in a hard-hitting dangerous game cartridge. A stunning blend of American design and brute force, this rifle carries the Winchester name with pride. Please check out our photos, and thanks for bidding! Good luck! – J.D.
