Our Assessment: This Winchester Model 70 “Coyote” dates to the mid-2000s and represents a modern continuation of Winchester’s long-standing bolt-action sporting rifle lineage. Produced during the New Haven era under Olin licensing, the Coyote variant was purpose-built for precision varmint and predator hunting, emphasizing rigidity, weather resistance, and accuracy. The medium-heavy 24-inch barrel and laminated stock place this rifle firmly in the precision-oriented Model 70 family, reflecting Winchester’s effort to adapt the classic action to contemporary high-performance cartridges.

Chambered in .25 Winchester Super Short Magnum, this rifle showcases a cartridge developed to deliver .25-caliber performance in a compact, efficient case optimized for short-action rifles. The .25 WSSM offered high velocity, flat trajectory, and excellent downrange energy for varmint and medium game applications. The bore on this example remains bright with sharp rifling and no erosion, showing only light fouling and rating an excellent 9.5 out of 10. The absence of iron sights and the receiver’s scope-mount provisions underscore the rifle’s intended role as a dedicated optics-equipped precision platform.

Overall condition is very strong. Approximately 98 percent of the original metal finish remains, with only light scratches and scuffs visible on the stainless barrel and matte blued receiver. The laminated stock shows minor handling marks and compression dents consistent with careful use, retaining solid structure and fit. Markings are clear, screw heads remain sharp, and the action and safety function correctly. This rifle presents as a well-preserved example of Winchester’s modern Model 70 development, combining contemporary materials and chambering with the familiar handling and reliability that have defined the Model 70 for generations.
