Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 95% of its metal finish. This rifle is in near wonderful condition. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear and legible. The only finish wear that is notable, is located on the claw extractor and the right lip of the internal magazine where the action moves over it. Overall, this rifle is in Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. This rifle employs a Controlled Round Feed bolt. The safety is mounted at the back of the bolt on the right side. It has three positions. Pushed all the way forwards, the safety is off and ready to fire. In the middle position, the safety blocks the trigger, but allows the bolt to be opened for loading and unloading. In the rear position, the safety blocks the trigger and the bolt. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: None.
Our Assessment: The Winchester Model 70 Classic Super Grade chambered in 7mm Remington Magnum is a quintessential example of what many regard as the finest production bolt-action hunting rifle ever made. This version, manufactured in New Haven between 1992 and 2006, combines traditional American rifle aesthetics with the mechanical excellence of a pre-’64 style Controlled Round Feed (CRF) action, making it a serious rifleman’s rifle.
This Super Grade is topped with the BOSS (Ballistic Optimizing Shooting System) muzzle brake and tuner, allowing shooters to fine-tune barrel harmonics for enhanced accuracy and reduced felt recoil—a major asset for a magnum like the 7mm Remington Magnum. With its 26” barrel, you’re getting optimal velocity and downrange performance, making this rifle ideal for extended-range big game applications.
The stock is a showpiece in itself—shadow-line cheekpiece, straight comb, crisply cut checkering, and fine walnut throughout. The blued metal is deep and lustrous, with only faint wear at the extractor and magazine lip. Bore condition is excellent, and the overall mechanics remain tight and crisp. A rifle of this caliber and pedigree—literally and figuratively—deserves a home with someone who appreciates timeless lines, long-range capability, and the Winchester legacy. Whether for hunting, collecting, or bench-tuned precision, this Super Grade delivers. Please view our photos, and good luck on your bid! – J.D.
