Serial Number: 10019. This mark has been restamped incorrectly. This serial number is not listed in our reference material.

Year of Manufacture: 1942 to 1945. Barrel Date: 6-43. The receiver and barrel markings have been restamped. We cannot provide a date of manufacture that corresponds with those listed on page 32 of Scott Duff’s book, The M1 Carbine Owner’s Guide.

Markings: There is no import mark. The top front of the receiver is marked “U.S. CARBINE / CAL. .30 M1”. The top rear has been restamped “Winchester / Trade Mark / 10019”. The top of the barrel has been restamped “ROCK-OLA / 6-43” (page 49 of Craig Riesch’s book, U.S. M1 Carbines Wartime Production 7th Edition). The right side of the barrel is marked “ROCK-OLA” just above the gas piston. The right rear of the trigger group is marked “ST” which is a Standard Products mark (page 78). The hammer is marked with a partial “HI” stamping which is an Inland mark (pages 89-90). The magazine release is marked “M” and “WI”which is an Inland mark (page 100). The rotary safety is marked “N” which is a post WWII rebuild mark (pages 95 & 185). The inside of the operating slide is marked “circled S” which is Standard Products mark (page 65-66). The bolt is marked “AI” on the left lug which is an Inland mark (page 36). The front sight is marked “P” which is a replacement produced during WWII (page 56). The Type II rear sight is marked “PI” which was used by Inland mark and Saginaw Gear (page 29). The Type III barrel band is marked “SI” which is an Inland mark (page 59). The stock is unmarked. The front of the reproduction magazine pouch is marked “U.S” and the rear is marked “D.M. SHOE CO. / 1943”. The snap is marked “STAR PULL”.

Barrel Length: Approximately 18 Inches

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a post set between two protective wings. The rear sight is an adjustable Type II aperture assembly.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The wood stock has a pistol grip, Type III barrel band with sling loop & bayonet lug, sling well, sling pass through, and a metal buttplate. The refinished buttplate & barrel band show light scrapes. The wood shows scrapes & scratches. Most of the marks are on the handguard. These marks have been oiled over. The LOP measures 13 ¼ inches from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The stock rates in about Very Good Plus overall condition.

Type of Finish: Parkerized

Finish Originality: Refinished

Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright. The muzzle and the grooves in the front third of the bore are light grey. The rifling is sharp. The muzzle and the grooves in the front third of the bore show frosting & fouling. The fouling should clean up some. The bore shows an M.E. of 2.

Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish as refinished. The right side of the receiver and right rear of the trigger group each have an area of surface erosion showing through the finish, under the wood. The right side of the receiver shows thinning along the top edge of the ejection port as well as some thinning from cycling. The metal shows various scuffs & light scrapes. The markings are well defined. Overall, this rifle rates in about Very Good Plus to Fine condition as refinished.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. We did not fire this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance requirements.

Box, Paperwork & Accessories: The rifle comes with a sling and a reproduction dual mag pouch. The green canvas sling shows light scrapes & scuffs on the metal. It is in about Fine condition. The canvas mag pouch shows light scrapes & oxidation on the meal. The mag pouch is in about Fine condition.

Our Assessment: This M1 Carbine has been refurbished so it looks nice. The barrel and rear of the receiver were restamped during the refurbishment. Unfortunately the serial number was stamped incorrectly and does not fall within any of the Winchester serial number ranges.
