Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “WINCHESTER ® MODEL 9422M .22 WIN. MAGNUM / MADE IN NEW HAVEN, CONN. U.S.A.—WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The top rear of the barrel is marked with the Winchester proof. The underside of the receiver and forward portion of the guard assembly are marked with the serial number, “F706197”. The buttplate has the Winchester logo.

Sights/Optics: The front sight is brass beaded blade with protective hood dovetailed into a ramped base that is fixed to the barrel. The rear sight is a u-notch leaf with a white triangle aim guide and an elevator piece that is dovetailed to the rear of the barrel. Equipped to the top of the receiver via two rings is a Simmons Model 21029 optic with a duplex reticle and 3-9x magnification. The scope shows some scattered faint nicks and scratches throughout and the lenses are clear. The optic rates in about Fine condition.
Stock Configuration and Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered wood with a banded forearm, straight grip, straight comb, and checkered composite Winchester buttplate. There is a sling swivel in the belly and the bottom of the mag tube bracket with an attached Butler Creek green canvas sling. The wood shows some sparse hardly notable light marks and minor handling wear. The checkering is sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The length of pull is 13 3/4” from the front of the trigger to the back of the plate. The plate shows light scuffs and scratches and the heel and toe and the checkering is well defined. Overall, the stocks rate in Fine-Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion, just some infrequent faint fouling.
Overall Condition: The rifle retains about 97% of its finish. There are some faint freckles of oxidation on the right side and bottom of the receiver, along with some faint scratches throughout. There is light operational wear on the bolt and lever. The screw heads are sharp and all markings are clear. Overall, the rifle is in Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The lever action is smooth. We have not fired this rifle. As with all previously owned firearms, thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box Paperwork and Accessories: This 9422M includes the previously mentioned Simmons scope and the attached sling are included.
Our Assessment: The Winchester 9422M is a late-era lever action rifle that makes the best of the storied functionality and dependability of the rifles that came before it. The rifle was rather popular in the time it was manufactured, starting in 1972 and going until 2005. This example was manufactured in 1996, but one would be hard-pressed to believe it given its overall high condition. The rifle is chambered for the famed .22 WMR. The .22 WMR uses bullets comparable in weight to the .22 Long Rifle, but is considerably faster, and shoots flatter and farther and hits harder at all ranges. The 40-grain .22 WMR at 100 yards still has 50% more kinetic energy than a 40-grain .22 LR at the muzzle. The .22 WMR provides improved penetration and more reliable expansion at longer ranges with expanding bullets. This rifle is an ideal choice for small game and also those new to shooting, or for parents that want their children to begin taking the responsibility of being a shooter.
