Our Assessment: This Winchester 1885 Low Wall, produced by Miroku in Japan, is a beautifully crafted tribute to John Browning’s original single-shot falling block design. Chambered in the speedy and flat-shooting .17 Mach 2, this rifle offers pinpoint precision in a format rarely seen today—especially in a rimfire. With its 24” octagon barrel, color case hardened receiver, and deep blued steel, the rifle exudes old-world craftsmanship with modern materials and tolerances.

The wood is finely grained walnut with a straight wrist and clean checkering, complemented by a color case hardened crescent buttplate. The bore is bright with sharp rifling and rates a strong 9.5/10 in this writer’s opinion. The fit and finish are excellent throughout, with 99% of the original finish remaining and no signs of misuse or heavy handling.

This is a striking rifle in a rare caliber for the platform, making it a standout option for collectors and small game hunters alike. The Low Wall’s elegant simplicity and accuracy potential—especially with a cartridge like .17 Mach 2—make it a joy on the bench or in the field. It ships in its original box with the owner’s manual, and its condition suggests it may have seen little use, if any. A refined addition to any collection of single-shots, Winchester commemoratives, or rimfire rarities. Please check out our photos, and thank you for bidding! Good luck! – J.D.
