Markings: The left side of the top barrel is marked “WINCHESTER -PIGEON GRADE XTR-12 GA. 2 3/4″-70MM / NEW HAVEN, CONN. – U.S.A. / WINCHESTER”. Each barrel has a Winchester Proof on the left just forward of the chamber with the top barrel marked “FULL *” and the bottom “IMP MOD **”. The top of the rib is marked “PIGEON GRADE”. The right side of the barrel is marked “MADE IN JAPAN”. The bottom of the bottom barrel is marked “WINCHESTER PROOF STEEL”. The monoblock is marked “429894″. The barrel lug is marked “12-2 3/4” in oval. The receiver is deluxe scroll engraved. There is an engraved pigeon and “WINCHESTER” on the bottom of the receiver. The top tang is marked “PK429894”. The water table has a “WP” in oval proof. The forend hardware is marked “429894” and the inside wood is stamped “9894”.

Sights / Optics: This shotgun is mounted with a white bead in a base at the front of the rib and a smaller white mid-bead. The top of the rib is serrated to reduce glare.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece checkered walnut with pistol grip, monte-carlo comb, ventilated black rubber Winchester recoil pad, and beavertail forend. The stocks have a few scattered light nicks, scuffs and scratches with a few more notable dings along the top-left edge of the forend and another in the left of the buttstock toward the rear. The checkering is generally sharp. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 3/8” from the front of the trigger to the back of the recoil pad, 13 1/2″ to the back of the wood. The drop at the front of the comb is about 1 1/2″, 1 3/8″ at the rear of the comb, and drop at heel is about 1 7/8″. The recoil pad is still fairly supple with no notable wear. The stocks rate in about Very Good overall condition.

Bore Condition: The bores are bright. There is no erosion.

Overall Condition: This shotgun retains about 96% of its metal finish. There are a few light nicks and dings on the edges of the rib. The barrels have a few light nicks and scratches, most notable on the right about 4″ from the muzzle. There is minor operational wear. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this shotgun rates in about Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly including ejectors. It has a single selective inertial trigger. We have not fired this shotgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.

Our Assessment: The iconic Model 101 Pigeon Grade is a shotgun with legendary styling and handling and the unquestionable reliability you expect from Winchester firearms. The Pigeon Grade features detailed engraving and wood stocks with beautiful grain. This shotgun features white bead sights, jeweled ejectors and a single selective trigger. With 30″ barrels choked Full and Improved Modified, it should make for a great hunting gun where longer shots are expected.
