Our Assessment: This Winchester 101 American Flyer Live Bird over/under is an exceptionally rare and purpose-built shotgun, produced only in 1987 with approximately 200 examples made. Chambered in 12 gauge with 2.75″ chambers, it wears 28″ barrels configured specifically for live bird and trap-style shooting. The top barrel is fixed Extra Full choke, while the bottom barrel is threaded for WinChoke tubes, giving the shooter both traditional tight patterning and modern adaptability. An elevated trap rib with both a front bead and mid bead provides a precise, heads-up sight picture ideal for rising targets.
What truly sets this American Flyer apart is its execution. The shotgun is stocked in beautiful, high-grade walnut with rich, expressive grain and a dedicated trap-style stock designed to naturally position the head and eye above the rib. That geometry, combined with the elevated rib and carefully chosen choke configuration, makes this a highly specialized and extremely effective rising target gun. Perfect for trap or live bird shooting. As a limited-run Winchester 101 variant with a unique purpose and striking presentation, this is an extraordinarily cool and seldom-seen shotgun, one that stands out immediately to serious Winchester collectors and live bird enthusiasts alike.
