Our Assessment: The Model 3906 is the stainless brother of the Model 3904 and features a double action trigger and slim grip frame with an 8-round magazine. This one comes with a box which inside contains a label addressed to Wayne Novak who did the work on this pistol. In addition, there is also a handwritten label on the box listing some of the modifications though it is worn and much is gone. Some of the edges of the frame have been radiused & dehorned and are less sharp than a factory example. In addition to the radiused edges, the trigger guard has been converted to a rounded guard instead of the squared guard. A picture of the original trigger guard for this model can be seen on page 365 of the 4th Edition Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson by Supica & Nahas, and all the product codes are listed as having that style. To top off the carry treatment, the hammer has been replaced with a spurless hammer for an effortless and snag-free draw. An action job has been done and the trigger is smooth and crisp, the reset is crisp and tactile unlike some of the factory examples with a false reset… the work is superb. An already rare model made for only 2 years, this one is a perfect carry gun for those who prefer all steel as opposed to Tupperware, but with its box will also make a great addition to a collection. Please see our photos and good luck!
