Our Assessment: W.W. Greener is one of the most respected names in British shotgun manufacturing, with a legacy of innovation and precision dating back to the 19th century. The Facile Princeps action was patented in 1876 and became renowned for its simplicity, strength, and reliability. This example was manufactured in the 1920s and features the distinctive boxlock action along with Greener’s patented cross-bolt locking system and “Special Club Steel” barrels.
This shotgun balances beautifully and is configured with 28” barrels, a straight grip, and dual triggers—ideal for traditional field shooting or vintage sporting clays. The Greener’s reputation for robust build quality is reflected in the tight action and clean bores of this well-preserved piece.
For collectors, Greener shotguns with retailer-specific engravings and U.S. import histories are always of interest. This one, made specially for the Knoxville Sporting Goods Co., adds regional American provenance to an already highly respected British maker.
