Our Assessment: This Valkyrie Arms SA/M3-A1 Grease Gun Carbine is a semi-automatic civilian-legal tribute to the iconic M3A1 “Grease Gun”, the compact .45 ACP submachine gun that saw widespread U.S. military use from WWII through the Vietnam War. Manufactured in Olympia, Washington, Valkyrie Arms created these guns in limited quantities to replicate the unmistakable silhouette and rugged simplicity of the original M3A1 while converting the design to semi-automatic operation with a 16” barrel, making it compliant with federal rifle regulations without the need for NFA registration. Chambered in .45 ACP, this carbine preserves the feel and blowback action of the original M3 while offering a closed-bolt, semi-automatic firing system for collectors and shooters. It features a wire-style collapsible stock, fixed iron sights, and checkered aluminum pistol grip, all housed in a parkerized stamped steel body true to the WWII-era aesthetic. This example retains about 97% of its original finish with light handling marks and minor scuffs. The bore is clean, sharp, and rated 9.5/10, and the action functions correctly. It includes two magazines (one showing light corrosion) and a display barrel, rounding out a well-equipped package for display or range use.
Whether you’re a military arms enthusiast, reenactor, or someone seeking a classic American SMG in a legal semi-auto format, this Valkyrie M3A1 is both collectible and fun to shoot. Its authentic look and feel—combined with the stopping power of .45 ACP—make it a unique addition to any military-style collection. -R.E.
