Markings: The top of the barrel is marked “TAYLOR’S & CO. WINCHESTER VA – A.UBERTIITALY” in front of the rear barrel sight and “CAL.38-55” just ahead of the receiver. The bottom tang is marked with the serial number and “PAT. OCT. 7th 79.”. The bottom of the receiver, just rear of the forend, is marked with a date code and “Cat. 10499”. The bottom right side of the barrel is marked with Italian proofs.
Barrel Length: 30″, Octagonal
Sights / Optics: The front sight is a globe sight with a replaceable fine crosshair that is dovetailed to the barrel. The rear barrel sight is a flip-up semi-buckhorn U-notch leaf with an elevator that is dovetailed to the barrel. The tang sight is a flip-up fully adjustable peep aperture sight with left side markings that range from “0 – 1/2 – 1 – 1/2”.
Stock Configuration & Condition: The stocks are two-piece smooth walnut. The forend has a schnabel tip. The buttstock has a straight grip, straight comb, and steel buttplate with a sliding door over a storage compartment in the butt. The stocks have minor handling wear with only a few hardly noticeable marks. There are no chips or cracks. The LOP measures 14 1/8″ from the front of the trigger to the back of the buttplate. The plate shows some infrequent freckles of oxidation, with a slightly higher concentration at the toe. Overall, the stocks are in about Fine-Excellent condition.

Bore Condition: The bore is bright with sharp rifling. There is no erosion in the bore.
Overall Condition: This rifle retains about 97% of its metal finish. The lever shows some light handling marks. The barrel has a few barely visible marks. The case color on top of the hammer has thinned. The screw heads are sharp. The markings are clear. Overall, this rifle is in about Fine-Excellent condition.
Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The hammer has a half-cock safety position. The trigger breaks crisply and is fairly light. The lever locks up solidly. We have not fired this rifle. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
Box, Paperwork & Accessories: This rifle comes in its original serial matched box with interchangeable reticles for the globe sights and a manual as well as an interchangeable stock and a leather stock sleeve. The box shows some dispersed light compressions, scuffs at the edges, and rubs from storage. Tape has been applied in three spots that wraps from the top to the bottom to seal the box. Overall, the box rates in about Very Good condition. The stock has a straight grip, unfluted straight comb, and a blued steel carbine buttplate. The stock shows infrequent light handling marks. The stock rates in about Fine Plus-Excellent condition. The stock sleeve has some minor scuffs at the bottom and strong stitching. The sleeve rates in about Fine condition.
