Markings: The left side of the barrel is marked “SMITH & WESSON”, the right is marked “S.&W. .357 MAGNUM”. The left side of the frame has S&W’s monogram logo and the right has the four-line Marcas Registradas. The yoke cut is marked with the U.S. Customs mark “CS 1” above “M / MOD. 686”. The yoke and sides of the grip frame have inspection marks. The butt of the grip frame is marked with the serial number. The ejector recess is marked “S”. The rear face of the cylinder is marked “V” and the front face is marked “0”.

Barrel Length: 3”, with full underlug and solid, serrated rib.

Sights / Optics: The front sight is a serrated ramped sight and is pinned to a rise in the solid, serrated rib. The rear sight is a flat top, square notched leaf in a base that is micrometer-click adjustable for windage and elevation.

Stock Configuration & Condition: The grip is a checkered black rubber Pachmayr Gripper grip with medallions and a window for viewing the serial number. The grip has some light scuffs to the butt and there is light rub wear to the checkering. Overall, the grips are in about Fine Plus condition.

Finish Originality: Original

Bore Condition: The bore is bright and the rifling is sharp. There is no erosion in the bore.

Overall Condition: This pistol retains about 95% of its metal finish. There are some shiny spots from rub wear on the sides of the underlug and barrel at the front. There is a ding on the front sight. There are some marks around the front sideplate screw. There are numerous swirl marks from handling and storage, some have caused smooth spots. There are some scratches, the most noticeable on the front of the underlug and barrel. There are a few dings, most noticeable on the front of the frame and trigger guard. The corners of the rear sight leaf have wear. The cylinder has a turn-line. The hammer and trigger have minor operational wear. The screw heads show use. The markings are clear. Overall, this revolver is in about Very Good-Fine condition.

Mechanics: The action functions correctly. The cylinder produces light side to side play in full lockup of all 6 chambers. The double-action trigger pull is smooth, the single action is crisp. We did not fire this handgun. As with all used firearms, a thorough cleaning may be necessary to meet your maintenance standards.
